Materials for High Frequency PCBs

We use special materials for achieving high frequency operations. Depending on the range of signal speeds, we select the most suitable substrate materials for your application.

Material Selection

From cost considerations, FR4 is the least expensive, while Teflon is the most expensive material. However, high frequency performance of FR4 is limited with significant drop as signal speed crosses 1.6 GHz.

For frequencies above 10 GHz, we typically use newer generation materials as substrates. These materials, along with Teflon, have very low values for Dk, Df, water absorption, and can survive the toughest environments.

We source materials from leading suppliers including Panasonic, DuPont, Taconic, Isola, and Rogers—manufacturers who specialize in low loss and low Dk materials.

High Frequency Benefits

Faster Time-to-Market

Reduced design times through improved electrical performance. The noise reduction and improved signal integrity can mean fewer design iterations.

Improved Reliability

Superior reliability of microvias over through-hole vias, with aspect ratios as high as 20:1 due to thin materials and low Z-axis TCE materials.

Lower Cost

Properly planned and executed high frequency PCB designs can produce boards that are less expensive compared to standard alternatives while delivering superior performance.
